King Rama V - Series 2 Definitive Stamps - 10 Atts on 24 Atts

Stamp No.53 The 24 atts purple and blue stamp was surcharged “10 atts” with black ink in English by the Siam Mercantile Printing Press, Bangkok. The total number printed was 500,040. The overprint was in small roman font. Number produced 500,040. Issue of October 3rd, 1899 Stamp No.72 known as “The Big Ten”. On October 3, 1899, the stamp of amendment 10 Atts on 24 Atts was adopted. The 24 atts purple and blue surcharged "10 Atts" in English and Thai by the Rachathiptai Printing Press, Bangkok. Printed from a single setting and that from general setting B. All but two positions have the roman "s" as shown in the illustration. The antique "s" is therefore listed as the variety. A total of 120,000 were surcharged but it is estimated that only 6,500 were issued.
