When Siam joined the Universal Postal Union on 1st July 1885, the Salung type was reduced to 12 Atts instead of 16 Atts to be in accord with the international sending fees. The original brown shade was replaced with the orangeขbrown. Other types remained the same price. The darker shades are more valuable. |
The highest value is the Salung, The portrait is the same, but it is displayed on a medallion arched at the top, and square below, standing out from the frame from which it is separated by a thin colorless line. Above the curved top of the medallion is an ornate tablet bearing the value in native characters, and the whole is mounted on a frame more severely rectangular than the lower values.
Stamp Size and Dimensions. The size of the varies and is subject to shrinkage, too. Mr. Prakob Chirakiti, for instance, has observed stamps of 24.5 mm to 25.5 mm in width, and 30 to 30.5 mm in height.
PerforationThis stamp is perforated by a single line machine of 15 perforations: The full sheet contains 80 stamps. The 14.5 perforation is rarer and hence more valuable.
